CHEP fleet charging

We designed and installed the charging for CHEP’s electric fleet, starting at Pontefract, Durham and Severnside.

What CHEP asked us to do

CHEP set out to cut the carbon from its operations and work towards Net Zero by moving its fleet and site operations onto electric power at key UK sites. It chose us as its preferred contractor to design and deliver the charging.

What the job had to work around

The first 3 sites stayed live while we worked, so the job needed careful planning, coordination and control.

  1. Several sites spread a long way apart across the UK.

  2. Joining the new charging into the infrastructure each site already had.

  3. Keeping all 3 sites running without a break while the work went on around them.

  4. Meeting CHEP’s strict safety and environmental requirements on all 3 sites.

  5. Finishing each site to the agreed programme and to the specification.

The work we did on site

We took the charging through design, installation, testing and commissioning. On the first 3 sites we also did the groundworks and fitted the power kiosks that feed the chargers.

  4. Commissioning

Groundworks

We carried out all the civil works for the chargers on the first 3 sites, including:

  • Excavation and trenching
  • Ducting for power and data
  • Installing the charger bases
  • Reinstating the surface

We left every area as good as we found it or better.

Power kiosks

We fitted power kiosks on the first 3 sites to feed the charging network, including:

  • Kiosk bases and fixings
  • Containment for the cabling
  • Internal wiring and protection
  • Labelling and documentation

Each one gives the chargers a reliable power supply that is easy to maintain.

What CHEP said

The team is friendly, professional, and always quick to respond if we had any questions or changes. You can tell they actually care about doing a good job, not just ticking boxes. We’ve seen a big improvement since bringing them on board, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable, down-to-earth company to work with.
